Limlingan: In gangland fashion

THE start of this week is quite bloody with twin ambushes made on two different busy highways in the City of San Fernando.

On early Monday morning, one company executive was shot and was seriously wounded along the stretch of the Mac Arthur Highway in Barangay San Agustin. The victim of the shooting was on his way to work.

Before noon, a man was shot to death, this time at a stoplight near a giant mall and the former Paskuhan village. The man was shot by an assailant who took the opportunity while the victim's pickup truck was on a stop. The triggerman was said to be accompanied by an accomplice riding a motorcycle.

In both incidents, it appeared that the perpetrators are well-determined to do their task. This, despite the fact that they are well-exposed on two busy highways and devoid of the benefit of darkness to cloak their identities, merely relying on riders' masks and helmets.

To evade being identified or be caught by the hands of the law, they have their cohorts in motorcycles for easy escapes. Riding-in-tandem modus is an efficient way to perpetrate a crime and avoid being apprehended. A motorcycle rider can somehow manage to pass through traffic jam and avoid being stuck in it. Riding-in-tandem riders are also effective in avoiding the suspecting eyes of other motorists.

The perpetrators who "work" on their victims are usually professionals who do not mind doing their stuff even in broad daylight and even if there are closed-circuit cameras on by. They get daring everyday despite the risks of being identified and apprehended.

In gangland fashion, the shooters in the said incidents deliberately fired upon their preys using short firearms and at close ranges. Despite some onlookers and other motorists who are potential witnesses and the footages from CCTV cameras, the crimes were still consummated.

Evidently, there were no policemen posted or on patrol in the area that could have discouraged the criminals from doing their stuffs. If there were any, they could have likewise conducted hot pursuit operations that might have led to the arrests of the culprits.

It seems that the shooting incidents were carefully planned and executed. To date, authorities are still investigating on the two shooting incidents with the motive of the suspects to still to be determined.
