Pelco 1 officials charged for tree cutting

TWO Pampanga I Electric Cooperative (Pelco 1) officials were charged at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor for allegedly cutting trees in Magalang town.

Pelco 1 general manager Loliano Allas and Magalang area manager Enrico Go figured in the case filed by one Rustico Gonzales of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.

The case was filed over the weekend, with the complainants stating that provisions of the National Greening Program were allegedly violated.

Pelco 1 was allegedly responsible for cutting 125 trees in Magalang and Mexico towns last month.

It could be remembered that Provincial Environment and Natural Resources officer Laudemir Salac, in a September 10 memo to the regional director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), recommended the filing of criminal cases against officials and personnel of Pelco I.

Salac recommended that Pelco I be required to pay P1.8 million for the cutting of trees in both towns. The recommendation also included the cancellation of the chain saw permits of Pelco I.

Salac also recommended the revocation of the memorandum of agreement signed by then DENR regional director Gregorio Nisperos.

SunStar Pampanga tried but failed to reach Pelco 1 officials Tuesday, September 17.
