SMS-Boystown thankful for first-ever Cesafi stint

THE Sisters of Mary Schools (SMS-Boystown) Aloysians high school volleyball team will cherish the moment of being part of Cebu’s prime league for the student-athletes—-the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) 2019 Season.

The Aloysians volleybelles play in the Cesafi for the first time this season as the league’s guest team.

“The students are very excited and happy to play here,” the school’s volunteer volleyball coach Mark Anthony Bawasanta told SunStar Cebu.

The team’s debut was a close one, losing to the University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu-Mandaue (UCLM) in a deciding third set, 25-23, 19-25, 20-25, on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 at the University of San Carlos gym.

“They played well but you can still feel that they’re a bit nervous to play in Cesafi. We won the first set but we just came up short in the next two sets,” he said in Cebuano.

Bawasanta, who once played for Central Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa, thinks the Cesafi experience will help the development of SMS-Boystown players.

The Aloysians hope to learn lessons from this Cesafi stint.

“We recently won a gold medal in the District Meet and the team is set to represent the Municipality of Minglanilla in the Provincial Meet. The team will surely learn thru joining the Cesafi,” he said.

“The team right now has potential players. We even have a player at 5’9,” he added.

SMS-Boystown became Cesafi’s guest team last year, even joining the Under-12 basketball tournament. (RSC)
