TROPICAL Depression "Nimfa" was spotted almost stationary Wednesday morning, September 18, near Batanes, while the low pressure area (LPA) in the vicinity of Tarlac is expected to merge with the cyclone's trough within 48 hours.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Nimfa has remained almost stationary while packing maximum winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center and with gusts of up to 70 kph.

Pagasa said Nimfa was located 685 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes at 10 a.m. Wednesday, while the LPA was located near Mayantoc, Tarlac.

With these weather disturbances, monsoon rains, brought by the Southwest Monsoon, will affect Central Luzon and the provinces of Mindoro and Palawan, said Pagasa.

Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Calabarzon, and the rest of Mimaropa will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers, brought by localized thunderstorms, will be experienced over Mindanao and the rest of Visayas.

Pagasa advised the public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management councils to take appropriate actions and to monitor for updates.

It said sea travel is risky, especially for small seacrafts, over the northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon due to potentially rough to very rough sea conditions.

Most of the other seaboards of the country will remain moderate to rough, it added. (EZN/SunStar Philippines)
