CEBU (Updated) -- The Southwestern University (SWU) Phinma has assured due process for students in the video that went viral on social media recently.
The video, showing at least four men molesting a woman, who appears to be unconscious, inside a car, was uploaded by one of the suspects on Instagram's "My Day." My Day posts disappear after 24 hours but the video was downloaded and passed around through Facebook Messenger.
Reports said that among those in the video are students of SWU Phinma.
In a statement sent to SunStar Wednesday, September 18, the school said it is conducting a thorough investigation on the incident.
"It has been verified that students from our university are among those in the video," it said, adding that "it does not condone nor tolerate any form of misbehavior committed by our students."
The university also said that it will make sure that due process will be strictly observed in the conduct of the investigation and that appropriate sanctions will be imposed upon those who will be found to be responsible, "in accordance with the university policies, rules and regulations and in consonance with Ched and DepEd laws and regulations."
The Department of Education-Central Visayas said Tuesday, September 17, that it notified the Cebu City DepEd Division to look into the case.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Central Visayas is also conducting a probe into the incident. (LMY/SunStar Philippines)
