Highway Patrol Group intensifies visibility in major roads

IN A bid to address traffic congestion, the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) has deployed personnel to major thoroughfares that are also often identified as crime-prone areas.

Police Colonel Ranser Evasco, chief of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit (RHPU)-Cordillera, said the deployment was done to enhance the patrol procedures of the HPG, following the clamor of motorists and other road users for more responsive and meaningful police patrol operations in major highways and thoroughfares in Baguio City.

Evasco said this will also address the growing problem of traffic congestion that is attributed to the people's blatant disregard of traffic laws and ordinances.

He said the need for traffic law enforcement authorities to impose motorist road courtesy and discipline is also a growing clamor among various sectors of the society, as motorist behavior in any country is reflective of its state of public order and security.

"The 24/7 deployment was based on the directive and instruction of the new director of Highway Patrol Group, Police Brigadier General Eliseo Dela Cruz, for mobile and police visibility in the major thoroughfares identified as crime-prone areas victimizing motorist such as carnapping or hijacking and highway robbery," Evasco said.

He, meanwhile, urged the public to call their hotline at (0927)860-5073 for any assistance. (SunStar Baguio)
