Duno takes on unbeaten Garcia

ROMERO Duno’s wish has finally been granted as he gets his fight with young budding star Ryan Garcia.

“Yes, it’s a done deal,” Duno’s handler JC Manangquil told SunStar Cebu.

Duno trades leathers with the 21-year-old Garcia as the co-main event of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev World Boxing Organization (WBO) light heavyweight bout on Nov. 3 (RP time) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Duno has constantly been challenging Garcia to a fight but somehow the latter had not shown interest.

Both promoted by Oscar Dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, Duno and Garcia were scheduled on the same card on Sept. 15, 2019 against separate foes.

Duno fought Ivan Delgado, whom he stopped in seven rounds. Garcia, on the other hand, didn’t see action over the weekend after his opponent Avery Sparrow was arrested before the weigh-in due to gun charges.

Golden Boy Promotions offered Duno to fight Garcia a day before the fight but the latter asked for more money and was later on pulled out of the show.

The 23-year-old Duno continued to lure Garcia to a fight, calling him out after his win and wearing a t-shirt that said, “Ryan Garcia next, stop running.”

Days later, Garcia showed he isn’t running, signed a lucrative multi-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions and announced that he’ll be facing Duno.

“Garcia is a great boxer but I believe in Duno’s heart and power,” said Manangquil. “We are confident. Like I said Ryan is a great and elite boxer but Duno will show everyone that this is his moment to shine.”

Garcia last saw action last March 30 and beat Jose Lopez by stoppage. Duno is 21-1 with 16 knockouts, while Garcia is 18-0 with 15 knockouts. (EKA)
