THERE was a recent rant on social media about the need to bring back Good manners and right conduct (GMRC) subject in schools.

The clamor was brought about by the observed negative behaviors of people, not only the youth, on many things that is being posted on social media such as bullying which is so alarmingly depicting the degrade of character and values of people.

Social media is highlighting the instances of these occurrences which show how our community and our society is evolving. The suggestion of bringing back the subject GMRC can work but there are also other avenues or aspects to explore that could help in bringing back the good character and values of people, and martial arts and sports could be it.

As we all know, martial arts and sports is about developing character, discipline and respect and all other values. Other than GMRC, martial arts and sports can be one of the best interventions that could help in the said ordeal.

Getting everyone into martial arts and sports will help improve negative influence affecting the character and values of people at present and schools will play a big role. Many are convinced that martial arts and sports could be a better alternative to help deal with the said phenomenon.

Martial arts and sports teach every student the importance of values more than anything else. Every martial artists and sportsmen practices these lessons, embodying the values and seeking to attain the perfection of character.

Options must be explored to help ease the alarming transition of people’s character in our society, specially the youth. Schools could use martial arts and sports as an alternative effective option.

Getting into martial arts and sports will make a big difference to a person and it is not limited to the young but for all ages if only we can live the life of martial artists and sportsmen, we could have a well-mannered, disciplined, respectful and hardworking people and society.
