DILG warns public vs conmen using agency's name

THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Bacolod City has clarified it is not authorizing any individual to check and establish the correct measurements of public roads easement and right of way.

Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag, director of DILG-Bacolod, stressed this after they received information that there were some individuals using the name of their office for such activity in various barangays.

Madayag, who issued an advisory on Wednesday, September 18, said that DILG Bacolod has not authorized any individual or group of persons to check and establish the correct measurements of public roads easement and right of way, since this concern is lodged to the City Engineer's Office.

"This statement is issued to clear confusions created by some individuals using the name of our office to pursue their individual interests in one way or the other," she said.

She said any information regarding the matter may be relayed and cleared through their office.

For her part, Councilor Lady Gles Pallen, Liga ng mga Barangay president, said she also received complaint that an unidentified person on board a motorcycle was using the name of DILG.

"He was roaming in Barangay Taculing and other barangays and questioning the measurement of public roads which was conducted by the City Engineer's Office. He was also asking money from the house owner and assured them that their illegal structures will not be demolished," she said.

Pallen said only the City Engineer's Office or the City Legal Office is allowed to conduct the measurement of public roads regarding the demolition of the illegal structures and not the DILG.

"It's a reminder to our constituents to be vigilant to avoid this kind of modus. They are only taking advantage on the implementation of the demolition of the illegal structures," Pallen said.
