THE Cebu Provincial Government donated P3 million to the City of Naga to assist in its recovery and rehabilitation efforts a year after the deadly landslide in Barangay Tina-an that claimed at least 80 people.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia turned over the P3 million check to acting City of Naga Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong after the commemoration mass for the landslide victims held in City Hall on Friday morning, September 20, 2019.

Chiong said they plan to use the money to continue the site development on an ongoing housing project for landslide victims at the Balili property in Barangay Tina-an.

The money will be used to construct drainage facilities there, Chiong added.

Chiong admitted that the recovery and rehabilitation for the landslide victims continue a year since the incident.

Housing for those affected by the landslide, particularly those shouldered by the city government, is expected to be utilized by next month. The City has shouldered the construction of 50 housing units, Chiong said.

While the City is also awaiting the construction of 192 housing units for the landslide victims which will be shouldered by the National Housing Authority (NHA).

President Rodrigo Duterte was in Cebu last September 6 during a groundbreaking ceremony at the Balili Property, where the NHA-funded housing project will rise.

Chiong said with more than 400 landslide victims still living within the “no habitation zone” near Ground Zero, they are still in the process of convincing them to relocate due to the risk of living near an active landslide-prone area. (SunStar Cebu)
