YOKOHAMA-MARK Young Racing’s 15 year old phenom Iñigo Anton, drew-level with his father, Carlos, in the overall class championship during the 7th leg of the Philippine Autocross Championship Series (PACS) held at Robinsons Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The Baguio Achievers’ Academy 10th grader, who usually does his runs in the open class division first, decided to change his strategy due to the unpredictable weather.

Iñigo opted to do his runs in the overall class first where his father Carlos is leading in overall points.

The younger Anton set the bar at a blistering 40.62 seconds which turned out to be the fastest run in the class.

“Since I already clinched the open class championship, my dad challenged me to battle it out with him in the overall class. He does not want to admit it but I thinks he wants me to beat him,” Iñigo said.

Carlos of ADVAN-Castrol on the other hand decided to run in the open class first to get accustomed to the tricky lay out of the course before running in the overall class.

His first run garnered him 42.85 seconds but his 2nd run got him a time of 39.52 seconds which was good enough to take the best time in the open class.

However, as fate would have it, the alternator belt of his race car snapped after his open class runs which warded off his chances in running in the overall class against his son.

“I guess that’s the breaks of the game. My time in the open class would have been enough to win in the overall class but my race strategy did not work for me. Iñigo is one point ahead of me now in the overall championship and in the end it’s going to be may the best Anton win,” said the very proud father.

Another Mark Young-Pertua driver, Karol Collantes, took the Novice Class win with a time of 43.11 over Edwin Sarmenta who checked in at 43.97 seconds. Dick Perico came in third at 44.16 seconds. With the absence of Carlos Anton in the Overall Class, Gen Colina took runner up honors to Inigo Anton with a time of 42.62. JP Polintan took the last spot on the podium with a time of 43.07 seconds.

The Antons are backed by Yokohama, Advan, Mark Young Racing, MP Turbo, Mohspeed, Cars Unlimited, Kart Plaza, Kilton, Parts Pro, Special Stage and JSD Autosport.
