Session Road closure extended to December

BAGUIO City Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced opening of the Summer Capital’s door to the towns of La Trindad – Itogon – Sablan – Tuba – Tublay which forms the BLISTT.

The road will be closed to vehicles every Sunday and will only be used by pedestrians.

The mayor said the closure of Session Road every Sunday will enable markets to open after the city council approved the closure until December.

The closure of Session Road started with on an experimental basis which aims to test the viability of pedestrianizing the road as well as the improvement of air quality if no vehicles ply the upward lane of the American inspired main road.

Magalong said a farmers’ day concept is being mulled featuring different local governments and their products to be included in the lineup of events.

In the city council, Association of Barangay Captains president and Councilor Micheal Lawana also wants to include city programs to the weekly closure of Session Road.

Lawana said the request to the city mayor aims to align pending city council proposals to the ongoing program which closes one lane of the road every Sundays.

A market day aimed for locals to sell organic produce was likewise proposed batting for a one-day centralized market day possibly at the Igorot Park.

The event was proposed to gather organic products from the city to sell to the public, giving priority to urban gardeners not only in the Pine City but also from nearby areas like Benguet.
