USP-F, SWU-Phinma take down respective foes in Cesafi

THE University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Baby Panthers got back on the winning track while the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Baby Cobras gave the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars another cruel dose of reality in high school action of the 2019 Cesafi basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Sunday, September 22, 2019.

USP-F improved to 3-1 after it slipped past the University of Cebu-Lapu Lapu and Mandaue, 68-65. Diminutive yet fearless point guard Kyle Ochavo spearheaded USPF’s bounceback from their huge loss to the University of the Visayas last time out, as he scored 19 points.

Ramon Singson also helped out with 13 markers.

Meanwhile, SWU-Phinma evened their record up at 2-2 with an 83-77 victory over the preseason favorites USJ-R. The “Baby-Faced Assassin” Dezeo Villanueva tallied 25 points while speedy guard Kendall Limana added 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal to give the Baby Cobras its biggest win of the season so far.

For USJ-R, the nightmare start continues for the Partner’s Cup champions as it lost its second straight game and remained winless this season in spite of impressive performances from its top guys. Kendrick Abarquez had 15 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two blocks while Kevin Guibao — the Partner’s Cup MVP — had 14 markers and five boards. (SunStar Cebu)
