AS AN institution for learning, the Department of Education is continuously improving to live to its role in providing not only access but as well as quality education for all its learners. Thus, aside from enriching and enhancing its curriculum, it has also improved its facilities to support these endeavors so that the learners we entice to come to school will stay in school until their graduation in Senior High School.

Department of Education (DeEd) Secretary Leonor M. Briones last week called for the support of every stakeholder in the implementation of the Department’s Last Mile Schools Program to address the gaps in order to provide children in rural and urban areas with the same level of quality and access to education.

The Secretary emphasized this to more than 250 education officials during the Conference on the Implementation of Last Mile Schools in Mindanao on September 20 in Davao City amidst the two battles currently being faced —the physical struggle in Mindanao, and the challenge to educate the learners from geographically isolated and disadvantaged and conflict-affected areas (GIDCA).

She said that we are fighting an invisible battle and this can only be won with all the support of DepEd.

On the other hand, for this year’s celebration of the World and National Teachers’ Day from September 5 to October 5, Secretary Briones reported significant developments in teachers’ compensation and other benefits as part of the Department’s commitment to expand the scope of employee welfare.

The Secretary pointed out that providing them with opportunities for personal and professional growth, continuously finding ways to expand the scope of their welfare and boost the management of their finances, and ensuring that their work conditions gradually improve by reviewing and simplifying systems and processes, we empower our teachers to grow into the kind of educators that they are meant to become and that our learners deserve
