Abrigo: Winwin kindness vs hazing, messy conduct

PALARONG Pambansa gold medalist for tennis Winona “Winwin” Cabardo delivered a heartwarming message in her debut held on Saturday, September 21 at Padre Pio’s Home for Children.

“I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself, and I’ve found that kindness is the best way.”

It touched my senses most when a flash of self-assessment convicted me to the point of realizing my infirmities that kindness indeed is the best remedy.

Winwin has not only grown in age but also to a distinctive virtuous woman. She is the only girl among the three children of the blessed couple Dr. Junel and nurse Saada Cabardo. She is 18, but instead of celebrating her birthday with her friends in equal and upper social status, she chose to thank God by regaling the orphans. The occurrence as most of us perceived is common to celebrities for extra mile of esteem, but not to a student like Winwin.

Her day amused 22 orphans who sang with angelic voices at the concluding part of the event in the venue that was jam-packed with parlor games and wholesome prowess of magician Mark. The celebrator and her family expressed their gratitude to Sister Meriam Lenteria, the executive director of Padre Pio’s Home for Children and social workers Gladys Malbago, Rusty Ocleda, Jenny Villanueca and Jasmin Aguilar for assisting in making the outreach program a meaningful one.

Davao City has geared up against polio after the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) declared Davao River positive of poliovirus.

The townsfolk were warned not to swim in the rivers and public swimming pools and should always wash their hands. The Department of Health also intensifies its anti-polio immunization campaign. But wait, what prompted the RITM to check the water quality of Davao River? I mean, how often they conduct water sampling? Monthly, weekly or because the need now arises to reassure the public that immunization is necessary and blameless after dengvaxia repugnance?

Two hazing crazes pervaded the country last week. One was the haze hazardous to the respiratory brought about by the wild fire in Indonesia. And the other one was the fatal hazing done by assholes inside the Philippine Military Academy. Mind you, Congressman Rufus Rodriguez succeeded the gargantuan coastal superhighway project dubbed as Cagayan de Oro Boulevard for his much loved Cagayan de oro. Much more he would establish justice to a Kagayanon you mercilessly beaten to death.

GCTA does not mean Gordon Chatting and Talking Always but it is Good Conduct Time Allowance. It happened Gordon does more talking than the witnesses because he chairs the committee that investigates the mess. abrigodann@gmail.com
