Fishermen recover cocaine brick off Basilan

A SUSPECTED cocaine brick weighing more than a kilo with an estimated P6 million worth was recovered by fishermen off Basilan province.

Mayor Ibrahim Ballajo of Mohammad Ajul, Basilan, said the cocaine brick, wrapped in a transparent plastic, was found around 8 a.m. Monday, September 23, between the islands of Langil and Linungan in Mohammad Ajul town.

Ballajo immediately called Police Colonel Rufino Inot, Basilan police director, and turned over the cocaine brick for proper disposition after the fishermen handed over to him their find when they returned home.

He believed the cocaine brick is to be picked up by someone and has been dropped from a vessel passing the Mohammad Ajul town waters, which is a major shipping lane.

Meanwhile, Ballajo is offering P10,000 cash reward for each cocaine brick to anyone who could find the drug in the waters of Mohammad Ajul.

The move is part of the measure adopted by the municipal government against the proliferation of illegal drugs and to the municipal waters from becoming a drop-off point of cocaine brick. (SunStar Philippines)
