THEY say a man can survive eight to 21 days without food but never without water.

Water is essential to human life. Our body needs energy and hydration from water to function properly. However, we are constantly losing liquid from our body every hour of every day primarily via urine and sweat. And the only way to prevent dehydration is no brainer – drink an adequate amount of water.

But how much water should a person drink daily?

The quick answer would be eight 8-ounce glasses because that’s what we’re told by most around us since we’re young.

But are eight 8-ounce glasses of water enough and healthy?

I asked friends and did some searching online and I learned that the answer can be yes and no.

Yes, as this amount of water is enough for most people but no, as this is not true to everyone. Sometimes, an individual needs less or more than eight. There are times that a person needs eight glasses today, then nine or 10 by tomorrow. Simply put, it depends.

It varies upon your activity of the day and the situation you are in. Many factors ultimately affect your need for water. All you have to do is let your thirst guide your intake.

After exercise or if it’s hot outside like summer, sweat will be inevitable (unless you are diagnosed with hypohidrosis). So, make sure to drink enough to compensate for the lost fluids.

Golden rule is - when you’re thirsty, drink.

But, drinking water is not enough. The way to a healthier living is drinking with clean and healthy water.

For instance, Vital Water, a bottled mineral water brand, offers purified water that dissolves the right minerals and nutrients, making them more accessible to the body.

It is becoming a choice of many and the brand gives drinkers more reason to patronize their product as Vital Water is bottled in an environmentally friendly way which is through PET bottles thereby lesser carbon footprint.

Water is vital to survive and live a healthy life. Water affects your physical and mental performance. It helps you get away from impurities and health problems. It encourages faster metabolism for weight loss; and gives you clear and beautiful skin.

As what a famous line says – you are what you eat and drink, choose healthy.
