DENR engineer nabbed for 'illegally' holding gun

POLICE arrested over the weekend an engineer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Northern Mindanao for illegal possession of firearms.

Arnolfo Magadan, 49, employed as DENR-Northern Mindanao chief of Survey and Control Session, was in Punta, Barangay Macabalan to survey a property. But resident Deones Abao called for police assistance when he noticed that Magadan had a firearm tucked in his waist.

Confiscated from Magadan was a caliber .40 pistol with seven pieces of ammunition and another spare steel magazine loaded with 10 pieces of ammunition.

Upon interview, Magadan failed to present license of his firearm and permit to carry firearm.

Police Major Evan Viñas, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, said the suspect was rushed to a hospital Monday, September 23, after complaining of chest pains.

A friend of the suspect said Magadan carries a firearm for his own security, stressing he was shot in the past while surveying another property.
