Gacad: Cleanliness, next to Godliness

A FAMILY that cleans together, stays together.

International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day is the world’s largest volunteer day to protect our environment. Established in 1986 by the Washington-based environmental group Ocean Conservancy, the ICC is recognized as the world’s largest volunteer effort for the ocean’s health. Heal the Bay invites everyone to take part of the initiative where volunteers from all over the world will do their part to clean local beaches, rivers, creeks and parks.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 12 (MGB XII), together with some members and stakeholders of the Soccsksargen Responsible Miners Association (SRMA) participated in the September 24 Coastal Cleanup activity spearheaded by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB)-Soccsksargen of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

MGB XII sent a delegation of 27 personnel grouped as: Most Accomplished Team (daw hihi) - Lali, Norj, Brenda; Palomari A – Wynlove, Meds, Edgar (“Hotel California”), Shio, Jeffrey and Dan (“Ganda na sexy pa”); Acacia B – Aisah, Bebing, Leah, Paula and Chin; Mahogany B – Matt (“idol – nakitulog sa gurlalus”), Nonoy, Boyet, Danny (“long-playing”), Melvin (“powder puff”) and Kier; Mahogany C – Ardeezee and Nani (“Junjun”); Mahogany A – Eloise, Erlinda, nay Belle, Atty. Pau and Sweet (“tibay talaga haha”). The SRMA member companies represented were Bawing Cultural Community Development Cooperative and Tribal Mining Corporation.

Congratulations to Regional Director Alex Jimenez and the DENR-EMB12 for organizing our little contribution of cleaning up a portion of the coast in the beautiful coastal community of Glan Municipality in the province of Saranggani. Kudos to team MGBXII for the well-organized trip cum team building event.

(“Salamat sa preps and reminders Xarcee”). Special thanks to the SRMA members present for making the extra effort to show our oneness in healing our bays.
