Ricky Yanson announces plan to run as ‘PFF president

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Ricardo “Ricky” Yanson Jr. has officially announced his intention to run as president of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) this coming November election.

Yanson, the president of the Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA), bared this in front of the various Football Association officials from the island of Mindanao in Davao City.

“Football is my passion, sa Ilonggo pa amo ni an bisyo ko. I am happy and I am enjoying. Back home, I love to watch kids play football,” he said.

He asked for the support of the 17 football associations.

“I am asking for your votes this coming November 28 as PFF president,” he asked the football officials from Mindanao.

Yanson said he already talked with concurrent president Nonong Araneta two days ago about his plan and he got his support. Nonong will run as his vice president.

It will be a great partnership for Araneta and Yanson as the current PFF president is already an executive with the Fifa and currently heads the finance committee with the Asian Football Federation (AFC).

“We will help football a lot here in the Philippines,” he said.

Aside from Yanson, no one yet has announced plans to run for president.

Initially, Yanson is financing the Mindanao Cup to be held in October in Davao City. Top U13 teams from the different FA’s will be invited to join the competition which will be based to select young players for the future national team players.

Yanson started the NOFA Cup in Bacolod several years ago and has formed teams of the best players from the participating teams which competed in China.
