WHAT a delightful afternoon we had at SM Seaside City Cebu’ when Sistemang Pilipino set up a Musical Symposium with Sinfonia Academy Orchestra. The cultural affair was a capping of the exhibit “The Aviary” by Cebuano Fashion Czar Cary Santiago, and attracted this burg’s trendy and stylish sophisticates. The breathtaking gowns bore the designer’s penchant for flying creatures of the world... eagles, lovebirds etc., thus “Aviary!”

With Belgian conductor David Anne at the helm, the event featured an original composition by the conductor, “Batang Gamhanan” (a song in honor of the Sto. Niño). The Oyayi Classical Singers then sang familiar excerpts from light operas and Broadway!

There were also instrumentals from Offenbach and a movement from Haydn’s Cello Concerto. At this point, Conductor Anne introduced the various instruments and sections of the orchestra, building up to the complete sound of instruments playing together.

That night was the final activity of Sistemang Pilipino’s first grant from Telus International Phil., for which Sistemang Pilipino is warmly grateful! Likewise, Sistemang Pilipino is deeply appreciative of the support from SM Seaside City Cebu and Philinsure (Philpacific Brokers Inc.) for making the event possible.

Also, let us not forget the valuable contribution of Sinfonia Orchestra, Oyayi, and last but not least, to Conductor Anne, for commitment to developing the craft, and the future of Cebuano musicians for generations to come!
