5 nabbed in separate anti-drug stings

THE police arrested five drug personalities and seized some P81,000 worth of illegal drugs in separate anti-drug operations in Zamboanga City and in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Nicka Abubakar, 32, a housewife; Jonathan Padao, 36, habal-habal driver; Jauhar Abdulhamid, 32; Mario De Leon, 27; and Lacmudin Pangilan, 27.

Galvez said Abubakar was caught in possession of some P7,000 worth of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday at Sitio Asinan in Kasanyangan village, this city. Also seized from her was P200 marked money.

She said Padao yielded some P20,000 worth of suspected shabu and P200 marked money when he was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Sitio Little Tondo in San Roque village, this city.

The police officer added Abdulhamid and De Leon yielded some P20,000 of suspected shabu and P200 marked money when they were apprehended around 9 p.m. Wednesday in Baliwasan village, this city.

Galvez said Pangilan was arrested around 4 p.m. Monday at Purok Dama Denoche in Poblacion village, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.

Seized from the possession of Pangilan were five grams of suspected shabu worth P34,000, illegal drug paraphernalia and P1,000 marked money, she said.

Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act are set to be filed against the suspects, who were detained, she added. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
