UIC, Cor Jesu spikers defeat opponents

The University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) and Cor Jesu College (CJC) of Digos beat their respective rivals Wednesday, September 25, in the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) Sportsfest 2019 college men’s volleyball tournament at the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Jacinto gym.

UIC recovered from a second set loss to overcome Holy Cross College of Calinan (HCCC), 25-19, 25-27, 25-20, in their elimination game.

A series of costly errors in the second set somewhat delayed UIC’s win but they regained composure in the decider, capitalizing on their service aces.

But UIC coach Acee Poral, in an interview with SunStar Davao Wednesday, said, “Dili gihapon mi masulod sa quarterfinals maski 2-1 among standing sa bracket (We still can’t enter the quarterfinals even with a 2-1 standing in the bracket).”

Philippine Women’s College (PWC) and St. Mary’s College of Tagum, being the top two squads in the bracket, will advance. The latter also had a 2-1 card but they defeated UIC, 25-17, 25-21, Tuesday afternoon.

In other matches, CJC spanked San Pedro College (SPC), 25-16, 25-22, while HCDC demolished St. Peter’s College of Toril (SPCT), 25-7, 25-8, and PWC subdued SMCT, 25-14, 25-19. (MLSA)
