AS STRICTER measures were implemented in border checkpoints following the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in Luzon, Task Force Davao (TFD) intercepted 48 live hogs, which were being transported without proper documents, upon entering Davao City.

Task Force Davao Civil Military Office (CMO) chief Major Louie Legarde said on Wednesday, September 25, that they already deployed personnel who were oriented by the Davao City Veterinary Office (CVO) about ASF to check on the swine and meat entering the city.

Since the start of their operation two weeks ago, officials from the city sought their assistance to prevent the possible entry of this ASF.

Based on their data, they have 524 total heads inspected and of this figure, 366 live pigs have documents which were allowed to enter while 48 were lacking the documents and advised to be return to their point of origin.

For the meat, they also checked 17,400 kilograms of meat and 20 kilograms of which were prevented entry at the checkpoint when those transporting it were not able to present proper documents.

These meat were being transported from Tagum City and other parts of Davao del Norte. They were also able to intercept meat at the Toril checkpoint.

“Naa tay tropa nga gipadala sa city vet ug naa pod mismo sa atoang mga detachment we have the main checkpoint kung asa naa didtoa ang checking una na sa Lacson, Sirawan, ug sa Lasang (We have troops in our detachments. We have main checkpoint in Lacson, Sirawan, and Lasang,” Legarde said.

Upon entering the city, some CVO officials and TFD personnel will check trucks loaded with live hogs and meat should. They will also check if they are bringing necessary permits such as permit to transport, sanitary permit, among others to ensure that these are safe and free from ASF.

Should they notice that the pigs have shown symptoms of ASF, they immediately put it on hold for the quarantine for further checking. (JCR)
