WITH five days remaining before the end of the registration period, the Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Davao urged the Dabawenyos to register for the May 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election (BSKE).

Lawyer Krisna Samantha Caballero, spokesperson of Comelec-Davao, during the AFP-PNP press forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, said deadline of registration is on September 30 and they expect an influx of voters.

Based on their consolidated data for registered voters in the region from August 1 to September 21, they recorded a total of 26,473 SK registrants and 115,516 for regular voters or those 18 years old above.

Compostela Valley has 12,432 registered voters followed by Davao del Norte (30,327), Davao Occidental (8,002), Davao Oriental (9,229), Davao del Sur 38,565, and Davao City (38,565).

Caballero bared that in Davao City alone, there have been around 140,000 deactivated voters after failing to vote in two succeeding elections. There are some 87,000 in the first district, 20,000 in the second district, and 30,000 in the third district.

“What we do, we do not delete their record. We only deactivate. That’s why all they have to do is to apply for a reactivation so that their records will be updated,” Caballero said.

While there is already a move to postpone the election, for their part, they just continue their preparations unless there is already a law signed for its suspension.
