Team reopens UN Ave. u-turn slot

AFTER the two-day new traffic scheme dry run along United Nations Avenue (UN Ave.) caused hours of vehicle logjam, Mandaue City’s traffic agency has decided to tweak its strategy to reduce congestion.

Architect Florentino Nimor Jr., who heads the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), said they agreed to reopen the u-turn slot in front of Royal Oaks International School on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019. Before starting the dry run’s first day on Sunday, Sept. 22. 2019, the u-turn slot outside the school had always been open to traffic.

Nimor said they noticed that the u-turn slot’s closure had created a bottleneck. When they reopened it, he claimed that the traffic flow in the area became smooth.

Light vehicles coming from the Cansaga Bridge, Lapu-Lapu City and Pacific Mall in Mandaue City can make a turn toward either the left lane or right lane at the slot.

The u-turn slot’s reopening is the only change the Team has made so far. Nimor said he withdrew the enforcers assigned at the U.N. Ave. intersection and posted them back to their original stations as the traffic flow at the said junction had become free-flowing. KFD
