THE Tacloban City public market has earned an average income of P2 million for July and August 2019 compared to P1.3 million for the same months in 2018.

Joel Bugho, officer-in-charge of the market operations, said they expect to collect more for September following their saturation drive dubbed as "Oplan business permits."

Bugho's office will also start the on-the-spot inspection of establishments within the public market for the "Operation Timbangan" from October to December "to check the accuracy of weighing scales, and ensure the protection of consumers against deceptive and unfair sales practices during the holidays."

"Siguro, ma-increase kita it September, kumo ine na aton nagtitinda ha night market kay mayda naman bayad. Hopefully, dumako talaga iton labi-labi na kay nagkakaada gihap kita hin saturation drives," said Bugho.

(Our revenue might increase in September, because vendors are now asked to pay for space at the night market. Hopefully, the revenue will increase especially that we have saturation drives.)

He said the income for August has decreased to nearly P200,000 due to the request of Tacloban Mayor Afred Romualdez to "waive" the fees of the vendors who were displaced at the downtown area.

The said business owners were recently relocated at the public market after the clean-up and clearing operations of the sidewalks at the city's main thoroughfares following the nationwide order of President Rodrigo Duterte to clear public spaces of obstructions. (SunStar Philippines)
