PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde is ready to face the Senate to shed light on the alleged recycling of illegal drugs involving several policemen.

“Nakahanda si PNP Chief, Police General Oscar Albayalde, na humarap sa pagdinig ng Senado para bigyan ng linaw ang isyu na diumanoy mayroon pa ring mga tiwaling pulis na pinaghihinalaang may kaugnayan sa iligal na droga,” PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Bernard Banac said in a statement on Friday, September 27, 2019.

“Pagtiyak ni PNP Chief, Police General Oscar Albayalde, ‘the PNP's internal cleansing will be relentless and will continue on until all rogue cops especially those involved in illegal drugs will be weeded out from the service and charged in court’,” he added.

Albayalde is among the resource persons invited on October 1, Tuesday, by the Senate blue ribbon committee to attend the inquiry into the irregularities in the implementation of the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) scheme.

The names of those implicated in the drug recycling issue is expected to be revealed during the October 1 hearing.

It was during one of the hearings conducted by the Senate that the issue of drug recycling by the so-called ninja cops surfaced.

Former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and now Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong identified, during an executive hearing, the policemen and police officials who were allegedly involved in the recycling of illegal drugs particularly in the so-called “Agaw-Bato” scheme.

Albayalde’s name was dragged into the issue after Senate blue ribbon committee chairman Richard Gordon rubbed four fingers on his cheek when asked which police officials were allegedly involved in drug recycling, apparently referring to a four-star police official.

He did not say whether the official is active or retired. There is only one active four-star general in the PNP, the PNP chief.

It can be recalled that Albayalde was relieved as the chief of the Pampanga Police Provincial Office following the arrest of several CIDG officers over “agaw-bato” scheme.

Albayalde was relieved only over command responsibility while the others were charged directly for involvement in illegal drugs, but were also eventually cleared of charges.(SunStar Philippines)
