CLARK FREEPORT -- Businessman Dennis Anthony Uy, chief executive officer (CEO) of Converge ICT Solutions has underscored the importance of technology to disaster preparedness.

During a meeting with officers and members of the Capampangan in Media Incorporated (CAMI) here Friday, September 27, Uy said the government may use technology to mitigate the impact of disaster including typhoons, massive flooding, and others.

Fortunately, some government officials understand the importance of technology because it is part of the development of their respective areas, according to Uy.

He mentioned Governor Susan Yap establishing a command center after seeing that all of the towns and the city are all connected with fiber optic technology put up by Converge.

“I came to Tarlac several years ago and as of this year all of the towns and the city are now connected with fiber in Converge. What is the benefit of this to Tarlac province? The benefit for the governor she saw this transmission of technolgy is already in place. Yap established a command center to be able to monitor the entire entry and exit points of the province,” Uy said.

The Converge top executive disclosed that the governor is also planning to upgrade its disaster preparedness program.

“Phase 2 is she (Yap) will make disaster preparedness. There is now a technology, you can put the cameras in the river bank when the water level goes up this will alarm the command center,” Uy said.

“So you can send the right information to people staying in low lying areas to tell them you need to move earlier. In the event of disaster you can save a lot of lives,” he added.

This technology should be adopted by the government because Philippines is a disaster prone country, according to Uy.

“We have A to Z name of typhoon every year and this will put wireless technology what happen during the crisis,” he said.
