HARDWARE stores always make it a point to have GI sheets as part of their inventory, as the versatile material is consistently in high demand. From simple roofing, wall cladding, DIY household projects to “banyeras” commonly seen in fishing ports and wet markets, the GI sheet has become a trusted, affordable and reliable material.

In manufacturing, metal sheets have also made its way as a housing material of common appliances such as refrigerators, airconditioners, toasters; and bigger items such as tricycle, jeepney and bus bodies.

In 1981, Philsteel notched a milestone in the Philippine construction industry with the introduction of Galvabond, a galvanized steel sheet that offers world-class lock-forming quality, superior corrosion resistance, weldability and formability with excellent coating adhesion. Galvabond provides a continuous, impervious metallic barrier that prevents moisture from contacting the carbon steel, giving the product superior corrosion resistance. Now with the improved Galvabond Pure Zinc, a significant improvement is achieved compared to other galvanized iron with the elimination of LEAD in the metallic coating as it is a health hazard.

Manufactured by Philsteel’s subsidiary Steel Corporation of the Philippines in its Balayan plant in Batangas, Galvabond Pure Zinc is processed under strict quality control to assure lifetime performance, durability and flexibility. Produced in a line designed by the world’s best galvanizing engineering companies, GALVABOND Pure Zinc has further evolved and expanded its application as a core material for Steeldek, a specified decking material in high-profile projects such as Skyway 2 (from Bicutan to Alabang), the TPLEX (from Tarlac to La Union), NAIAx (from NAIA 3 to Diosdado Macapagal Highway) and Skyway 3 (from Buendia to Monumento).

Made from high tensile 80,000psi Galvabond Pure Zinc, Steeldek is a structural metal decking profile used to support concrete flooring and recommended for high-rise buildings and infrastructural bridge decking. Offering structural integrity, fast construction time and greater economy, Steeldek meets all specifications of the American Iron and Steel Institute and the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines.

An additional benefit of using Steeldek is that cement pouring can be done without any propping support to allow people and traffic to continue their work underneath. Furthermore, the Steeldek profiles provide a significant 30% savings on concrete, rebars, time and manpower during installation.

From households, to manufacturing plants, and going sky-high in the Skyway project, Galvabond Pure Zinc has once again proven its reliability as the most versatile construction material in the market.

Galvabond Pure Zinc is available in Coils (0.40 to 1.60 mm x 1220 mm) for industrial applications; and Sheets (0.40 to 1.80 x 1220 mm x 2440 mm) in Galvaforce Centers and leading hardware stores nationwide. Visit www.steelcorp.com.ph for more information on Galvabond Pure Zinc.
