Mandaue to tweak business permit renewal schedule

TO HELP ensure ease of doing business in Mandaue City, the City Government will experiment with the renewal of business permits as a way of addressing the businessmen’s concerns on red tape.

Instead of requiring business owners to renew their mayor’s permit every January, City Treasurer Regal Oliva said the City plans to renew the permits on or before the date of their anniversary, or the date when their business was first issued a permit by City Hall.

This was among the concerns discussed during the monthly dialog between the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) officers and City Government officials on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019.

Oliva said the businessmen raised the issues that affect their day-to-day operations, including traffic and garbage collection.

They also discussed the steps the City has taken to ensure the ease of doing business, especially eliminating bureaucratic red tape in City Hall.

To address this, Oliva said his office will experient on “fiscalizing of the Mayor’s permit” beginning this January.

“Fiscalizing meaning in a fiscal year, the mayor’s permit will not be renewable every January but it will be renewable on the date of their anniversary,” Oliva said.

This would help avoid a situation where business owners or their representatives would flock to City Hall close to the deadline every January, he added.

The business leaders also raised their concern on the presence of warehouses and container yards in areas where they are not supposed to operate due to restrictions under the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and the zoning ordinance.

During the dialog, the business community also affirmed its support for and cooperation with the City.

“The local government cannot do it alone it. It really needs the cooperation and the support of all sectors be it in business, non-government organization, the educational institutions and religious institutions. If we all work together, then Mandaue would go a long way,” Oliva said. (KFD)
