EMIL'S and EGS advanced to the championship round of the Open division of the 2019 Talisay City Mayor’s Cup after besting their respective opponents during the last day of the eliminations at the Talisay City Sports Complex on Friday night, Saturday, September 28, 2019.
Emil’s hacked out a 93-86 win over Paragsa to finish the elims with a 4-1 win-loss record, which is good enough for the top spot. Former Cebu Sharks guard Iron Suano led the way for Emil’s with 23 points while left-handed big man Franklin Nailon had 19 markers. Another former Shark, Alfred Codilla, fired in 15 while Alfred Belande and Nat Cruz chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
EGS on the other hand, defeated Jocyn by the skin of its teeth, 101-100. Tansiong Bongasiso paced EGS with 31 points while former pro Jojo Tangkay put up 15. Randy dela Pisa and John Abad contributed 14 markers apiece.
EGS actually ended up with a three-way tie for second place with Paragsa and Jocyn but ended up getting the second seed by virtue of its better point differential.
Emil’s and EGS will be battling for the title on October 2.
Meanwhile, the Seniors division semifinals will kick off on Sunday, September 29, with Poblacion taking on Lawaan 3 and Tangke battling Cansojong. (SunStar Cebu)
