THE Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) will face off against the Lapu-Lapu Chess Club in a friendly tournament dubbed the Goodwill Match at The Barracks Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019. Cepca president Jerry Maratas will lead the 20-man team, while team captain Stephen Rosales will spearhead the Lapu-Lapu Chess Club. The two clubs will play a 20-board, 2-game rapid chess. The team with the highest score after the games wins the match. Cepca and Lapu-Lapu Chess Club have played eight times since the 1990s with Cepca leading 4-3. Cepca will donate two chess clocks and five plastic chess sets to Lapu-Lapu City Chess Club as part of the former’s chess program. After the team event, there will be an individual blitz tournament exclusive for both teams. The top three players will win P1,500, P1,000 and P500, respectively. (RSC)
