DTI: All set for consumer fun run

A TOP official of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced that all is set for the holding of the 4th Consumer Fun Run on Sunday, September 29, in Zamboanga City to instill awareness on consumers’ rights.

Dr. Sitti Amina Jain, DTI regional director, said the fun run, which will be participated by consumer groups and other sectors, will kick-off at the R.T. Lim Boulevard and will end at the Mayor Joaquin Enriquez Jr. Memorial Sports Complex.

“This (fun run) is part of the campaign to educate the consumers on their rights,” Jain said citing as a consumer, “we should know our rights.”

She said the fun run, which is a nationwide simultaneous activity of DTI, is aimed to strengthen public’s awareness of their rights, interests, and as well as responsibilities as consumers.

The Consumer Fun Run, which was introduced in 2016 by her office, was officially adopted by DTI-central office in 2017 and is now a regular activity across the nation during the Consumer Welfare Month.

Jain said there will be two race categories, the eight-kilometer and the five-kilometer run, representing the eight Consumer Rights and five Consumer Responsibilities.

The eight consumer rights are: the right to basic needs, right to safety, right to information, right to choose, right to representation, right to redress, right to consumer education, and the right to healthy environment.

The five consumer responsibilities are as follows: critical awareness, action, social concern, environmental awareness, and solidarity.

She said this year’s fun run is anchored on the theme “Sustainable Consumption: Understanding the Impact of Consumer Choices in a Shared Environment.” (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
