TALISAYAN, Misamis Oriental is quite known as a stopover for seafood dining because of its restaurants along the shoreline that serve fresh seafood dishes.

However, Kagay-anons, who are notorious food lovers, do not need go to the said town just to get the taste of the “Talisayan” seafood as a restaurant opened its doors to the seafood lovers of Cagayan de Oro, bringing in the flavors of fresh catch of the day.

Doy’s Isda sa Bato, which was established on January, this year, is a seafood restaurant that offers fresh fish and is quite well-known for its specialty dish, the tasty “Su-Tu-Kil.”

Su-Tu-Kil is combination of the three dishes: “sugba” or grilled fish, “tu” came from the word tula or stew fish, and “kilaw” or raw seafood bathed in vinegar.

Doy’s (name derived from the owner’s, Lawrence Anthony Del Bando, nickname “Doy”) is also popular for its “Adobong pusit with ata”, a tasty squid dish cooked using the popular Filipino adobo method (cooking meat in a soy sauce-and-vinegar mixture) and added with squid ink.

“Kasagara sa customers ila ginaingon kay lami gyud sad kuno ang timpla, ing ana ang ilahang comment. Sa timpla gyud og sa ka-presko sa isda,” Wowie Caina, the cousin of the owner of Doy’s, said.

The place may not be located near the water, however, taking a bite of their appetizing food will remind you of the flavors of the sea. Even the establishment’s design and ambiance will give you the feel of a seaside restaurant.

Caina shared that the fishes they serve, such as Kitong, Lapu-Lapu, Mayamaya, Katambak, among others, are fresh catch delivered daily from Talisayan.

Upon ordering, customers are asked to choose among the several boxes containing fresh fishes. The selected fishes will be weighed as the prices depend on its weight. It usually ranges around P75 per 100 grams.

And for those who wanted non-seafood dishes, particularly the kids, Doy’s also serves pork belly.

There are, indeed, several seafood restaurants in different areas of Cagayan de Oro, however, when asked what Doy’s edge is compared to them:

“Ang among isda kay freshly catch gyud sya. Everyday biya gyud mi naay delivery. Mailhan gyud sa tao, labi na naay uban nga makaila gyud, kun unsay presko,” Caina said.

Doy’s Isda sa Bato is located along JR Borja Extension, this city and is open everyday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
