Eagles destroy Dragons for second straight win

THE Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles won their second game in a row after they destroyed the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons, 71-45, in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) high school basketball tournament at Cebu Coliseum on Sunday, September 29, 2019.

After leading by just two, 18-16, after the first, the Magis Eagles came alive in the second and raised their lead to 41-28. Then, in the third, Ateneo de Cebu uncorked an 11-0 run sparked by lightning quick guard Mike Boniel to establish a 52-33 lead.

The Dragons could only come as close as 14, 44-58, during the early part of the fourth as the Magis Eagles had all the answers and kept on the raising the gap until the game’s final buzzer to get the win and improve to 2-1.

LA Casinillo led the boys in blue with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Justin Maglasang splashed in three triples to end up with 11 points, two boards and three assists. Boniel had 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and five steals.

CEC fell to 3-2.

Meanwhile, in the first game, the Don Bosco Greywolves hiked their record up to 3-2 after they crushed the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Baby Wildcats, 83-51.

Jayson Almero led the Greywolves with 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals while Rauric Panimdim added 11 points and an impressive seven steals. Vincent Escobido also did well in the lopsided win as he notched 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and five steals.

CIT-U have lost three straight games and dropped to 1-3. (SunStar Cebu)
