Habal-habal driver injured in Ormoc shooting



AT LEAST one person was injured while two of his companions were unharmed Saturday, September 28, after a multicab driver started shooting in Ormoc City.

Authorities identified the victims as Tirso Jaca, 43; Edgar Jaca, 45; and Dionesio Galola, 47.

All were "habal-habal" drivers and residents of Ormoc.

The shooting occurred at about 2:30 p.m. at Barangay Bantigue, Ormoc, police said.

The suspect was identified as Abelardo Ymas, 53, married, and a resident of said place.

Initial investigation disclosed that suspect was driving his motorcab-for-hire heading to downtown Ormoc and stopped at a distance few meters away from the "habal-habal" terminal where Tirso and other victims were sitting and having conversation.

Suspect approached Tirso and asked him in vernacular words, “Ngano lain man imo tinan awan nako?”

The victim replied by saying in vernacular words, “Ikaw ramay mo tan aw nako?”

After another exchange of words, Ymas allegedly drew his firearm and shot Tirso, hitting twice in his stomach and in both legs.

Suspect also shot the other victims but was not able to hit them.

Police recovered from the crime scene six empty shells, two deformed slugs and one live ammunition of Cal. 9 mm pistol.

A hot pursuit operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect at Barangay Cogon of the said city.

Recovered from the suspect were one unit Cal. 9 mm pistol Caspian with serial number 888219, chamber loaded with magazine with three live ammunition, and one empty magazine for Cal. 9 mm pistol.

The arrested person and confiscated items were brought to Ormoc Police Station-1 for proper disposition. (SunStar Philippines)
