LIVING the institution’s core principle, the Davao Doctors College, Inc. (DDC) has adopted a Philippine serpent eagle from the Philippine Eagle Foundation Center.
Talabawe, the Philippine serpent eagle, will now be supported by the school.
“We named it Talabawe. It is derived from a Bagobo tribe word which means ‘medicine man’. We are giving the eagle that name because the center where it will be housed and taken cared of is located within a Baragobo area,” DDC president Prof. Miguel Soledad said.
Soledad underscored the adoption is a concrete manifestation of their school’s philosophy and principle: We value life.
“Valuing life includes conservation of ecological balance. I think protecting a species is one way of preserving life,” he added.
The adoption’s Memorandum of Agreement signing between the center and DDC was held in August 2019.
According to Handbook of the Birds of the World, the Philippine serpent eagle, scientifically known as Spilornis holospilus, can be found in riverine forest, forest edge and wooded hills; also in open country with scattered trees. This eagle is observed feeding on snakes.
