Garbage volume in Oro drops

THE City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) said 99.6 percent of residents and establishments from Barangays 1 to 40 have complied and practiced waste segregation.

Clenro chief Engineer Armen Cuenca said since its implementation last June, garbage dumped at Pagalungan landfill has reduced to 50 percent.

Cuenca said it is the city government's target to reduce the amount of garbage diverted to the landfill to only 15 percent.

By 2020, the Clenro will implement another measure: prohibiting the use of plastic cellophane except for meat and fish products only.

Cuenca announced this will be implemented first at the City Hall in October.

He also reminded City Hall employees and department heads that acting City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a previously issued a memorandum requiring them to implement waste segregation at their own work areas.

He said Clenro personnel will now be deployed at City Hall to monitor and impose sanctions on those who don't follow the order.

For his part, Councilor Salcedo, who chairs the City Council's environment committee, said City Hall workers should lead by example and comply with the rules.
