1 dead, 4 injured in 2 head-on collisions in Leyte

A MOTORCYCLE driver was dead and four others were injured in two separate head-on collisions in Leyte Saturday evening, September 28.

The first vehicular accident took place around 7 p.m. Sunday along the provincial road of San Jose West, Burauen, Leyte. The victim was identified as Gerwin Laming, 20.

Police said Laming was onboard his black single Skygo King 150 when he crashed into an approaching motorcycle with three persons onboard after overtaking and encroaching on the opposite line.

He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Injured during the incident were Rona Bolacos, 34, driver of the second motorcycle, and backriders Mardie Bolacos, 25, and Rose Ann Bolacos, 17, all residents of Burauen town.

At 7:30 p.m., another motorcycle driver collided into a Hi-Ace commuter van in an opposite direction along the national highway of Barangay Zone 2, Sta. Fe, Leyte.

Authorities identified the driver as Noel Pining, 54, security guard, a resident of Barugo, Leyte.

Initial investigation revealed that Pining, onboard his black Motorstar, suddenly turned left and encroached the opposite lane, causing the head-on collision.

As a result, the motorcycle driver fell into the pavement and sustained physical injuries. He was rushed to a hospital for immediate medical treatment.
