DILG-Western Visayas to deploy validation teams in Negros

THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Western Visayas will deploy validation teams starting September 30 to check and confirm the reports submitted by local government units (LGUs).

Ariel Iglesia, DILG regional director, said the road clearing is a continuing responsibility of all the local officials not only at the city and municipal levels but also barangay officials.

The validation teams will be composed of representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), civil society organizations, and cross-posted personnel of the DILG.

However, Iglesia did not give figures because some LGUs have yet to submit their reports.

"Some LGUs claim that they are 80 percent accomplished, some 90 percent accomplished. That's the thing we are going to validate. We will give figures after the validation," he pointed out.

He added that the accomplishments should be substantial as the DILG has crafted a tool for the assessment.

"Per the announcement of the Secretary Eduardo Año, we can say that compliance is substantial if they have accomplished at least 70 percent. That is the passing rate set by the department," he said.

Any accomplishment lower than 70 percent could a basis for the issuance of a show-cause order against the LGU to explain why it failed to achieve the required rating, Iglesia said.

The validation teams have been given until October 14 to submit their reports.
