DAVAO City's Tacay siblings, Rexor Romaquin and Miyuki, helped win team gold and bronze medals, respectively, for the Philippines in the Turkish Open Grand Prix Karate in Istanbul, Turkey Sunday, September 29 (Philippine time).

The feat was Rexor's comeback tournament having been sidelined by a knee injury during a quarterfinals match in the Philippine National Games (PNG) 2018 in Cebu City.

"Sobrang saya ko po pagkatapos ng mahigit isang taon na pusposang rehab nakabalik din. Hanggang ngayon tuloy-tuloy ko parin pinapalakas. God is good!," he said in a Facebook interview with SunStar Davao Monday, September 30.

He beat two bets from Turkmenistan Team 1 and Team 2 in the senior men's team kumite competition during the second round and semifinals where he was entered in the -67 kilograms.

He joined Karate Pilipinas team of Sharief Afif, Ivan Agustin, Engene Dagohoy and Oliver Mañalac.

The 27-year-old Rexor, however, did not play against Palestine in the first round and against Russia in the finals since he was assigned as third person in both assignments. He said, "Hindi na umabot sa akin nung sa Palestine and Russia."

Miyuki, 22, for her part, salvaged a bronze along with her teammates Jamie Lim and Mae Soriano in the senior women's team kumite event. They lost to host Turkey but survived against Colombia in their battle for bronze.

The Dabawenya, who competed in +55 kg, said the Turkey stint, funded by the Philippine Sports Commission, was part of their 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019 preparations.
