THE 1995-Belaz/Air Spencer nipped the 1996-FWD Insurance, 69-66, in Division A of the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Cebu Landmasters Cup on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 at the Magis Eagles Arena in Canduman, Mandaue City.
Ian Ong and Andrew Po stepped up in crunchtime to deliver the win for Batch 1995. The game was tied at 59-all when Po scored a deuce to give 1995 back the lead. Ong then made six straight free-throws to help them seal the win.
Ong had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Batch 1995, while Neil Elumba and Po each double-double performances, the former getting 14 points and 11 rebounds, and the latter producing 14 markers and 14 boards.
In other Division A games, the 1990-Bayfront beat the 1998-GEF Inc./FWD Insurance, 73-63. Dave Lim filled the stat-sheet up once again as he had 14 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks.
The 1999-AutoLAB also beat down the 1989-ChickPhil, 83-37, as big man Robert Gilo dominated the pain with 25 points and 21 rebounds.
Over in Division B, powerhouse teams Batch 2004 and 2008-Sunpride Foods Inc. registered lopsided wins over their respective rivals. Batch 2004 creamed 2002-KJO Prints, 102-57, as six of the eight players they fielded in reached double-figures led by Franco Te’s massive triple-double of 14 points, 18 rebounds and 11 assists.
Meanwhile, 2008 crushed the 2006-Laptap Enterprises/Prince Warehouse, 82-52, as Ed Macasling fired in 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. (JNP)
