Creation of new village in Buguias pushed

LAWMAKERS in Buguias, Benguet are pushing for the possible creation of Sitio Calagan, a new barangay in the town.

The creation of "Barangay Calagan" would set up permanent residency in the locality, Buguias officials said.

"This body shares the sentiments of barangay council of Baculongan Norte considering that Sitio Calagan is now fast becoming a big community due to the influx of people from the adjoining barangays who come to engage in farming and other business activities," reads the resolution passed by members of the Buguias Municipal Council.

It added that some of the residents had transferred to adjoining municipalities and it is also seen as the only way to encourage people in staying put in the municipality by bringing government closer to the people.

The area is within the tri-boundary of Mt. Province, Ifugao and Benguet.

Once Sitio Calagan becomes a barangay, it would be composed of Lam-ayan, Walengwen, Dengao, Bidadayan, Linggew, Gaang Bala and Pangaw as sitios.

Barangay Balucongan Sur officials, through a resolution, strongly supported the clamor of Baculongan Norte for the possible creation of Sitio Calagan as one barangay of Buguias.

To date, Buguias town in Benguet is composed of 14 barangays.

Majority of the residents are farmers, and vegetable produce can easily be seen when traveling along the Halsema Highway, which passes through Buguias.

Copies of the resolutions were forwarded to the Provincial Board of Benguet for appropriate action.
