Angeles City celebrates women's month

ANGELES CITY -- Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno, in coordination with the Gender and Development Office (GAD) and other advocates from the private and public sectors joined the commemoration of International Women’s Month (IWM) Monday.

IWM is globally celebrated every March.

Nepomuceno said the whole month of March would be spent in tribute to the economic, political and social achievements of women.

GAD will conduct a month-long series of activities to raise public awareness on women's issues and achievements across all sectors and cultures.

“Women are powerful in their very essence. They are capable of creating, nurturing and transforming,” Nepomuceno said.

Nepomuceno added: “Whatever you give a woman, she would make something greater. Present her a house and she will transform it into a home. Provide her food rations and she will offer you a hearty meal. She multiplies and enlarges whatever she is given.”

The Angeles City Government made a beneficial head start of the celebration by offering a free Osteoporosis Screening on March 01 at the City Hall Lobby. A lecture series about Diabetes and Healthy Lifestyle last March 05 at Holy Angel University was also held.

“In a developing metropolis like Angeles City, authentic progress cannot be achieved if a fraction of its population is excluded from the opportunities it creates. Hence, the Angeles City Government would like to pay tribute to the women by organizing activities to empower them,” Nepomuceno said.
