BARANGAY 76-A clinched the girls championship title of the SBP Under-18 3X3 Davao City eliminations at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC) Tuesday afternoon, October 1, to barge into the regional eliminations set on Saturday at the same venue.

Barangay 76-A, composed of Chady Bucao, Leonella Luisa Javier, Maryjane Ortega and Joanne Arab, demolished Barangay Sto. Niño, 9-5, in the finals of the cagefest organized by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-Davao under regional director Glenn Escandor.

The players, according to them, have already been playing in their barangay.

Arab said, "Dugay nami magkaila. Nagadula-dula nami dugay na pero karon ra mi nabuo para sa tournament nga ingon ani (We have known each other for a long time. We also had played in our own barangay but this was the first time we were formed as a team to play in a tournament like this)."

SBP-Davao operations head Ronel Leuterio, however, assured runner-up Barangay Sto. Niño players that they will also advance to the regional qualifying along with Barangay 76-A and will be pitted against champion teams of Davao region and other nearby provinces.

In the boys finals, Barangay 10-A defeated Barangay Maa to clinch the crown but both teams also earned tickets to the regionals.

Barangays Talomo Proper and Sasa placed third in men's and women's events, respectively.

SBP referees regional commissioner laywer Francis Calatrava, SBP's Billy Cruzada and Davies Paints Philippines Inc. business development officer Jeremie Suazo awarded the cash prizes to the top three teams.

Most teams fielded out-of-school youth players, thus, giving them opportunities to also compete in big leagues and play in huge venues.

The regional championship will be held on Sunday at the Arcadia Gym where slots to the national finals are at stake.
