BLITZ champions Lorebina Carrasco II and David Rey Ancheta of Corpus Christi School repeated a golden performance in standard chess event for secondary girls and boys to complete a rare-sweep finish for the individual and team golds in 2019 City Division Meet chess competition concluded over the weekend at Carmen National High School building in Cagayan de Oro City.

Both Carrasco and Ancheta scored 4.5 points in five rounds to secure a place in the regional meet to be held in Tubod, Lanao del Norte this coming December.

Cristine delos Reyes of Cagayan de Oro National High School (for senior high), Carrasco's teammate for South District's cause, delivered the same output (4 wins and a draw) after suffering her only loss earlier to Carrasco in blitz contest to also qualify.

Joseph Alexis dela Rama of Cagayan de Oro College (COC-Phinma) barely nosed out Timothy Robert Mutya of Oro Christian Grace School for the combined results in blitz and standard chess to be Ancheta's rightful partner this year in Tubod regional meet.

"This will be his second try nga finally ma Palaro na unta kay last year nag champ siya sa isa ka category of the regional chess tourney but narrowly missed the Palaro slot after his shortcoming in the other category," said the mother of dela Rama.

Multi-titled Ruelle "Tawing" Canino of Kauswagan Elementary School also swept the blitz and standard qualifiers for elementary girls to assure that Cagayan de Oro will have a strong chess entries in the Northern Mindanao meet.

"I think Tawing (Canino) will have no problem breezing through the regional meet. But her secondary counterparts are expected to encounter rough sailing kay close fight sila sa mga pambato sa Misamis Oriental," said Lorebina's father, Emmanuel "Mawi" Carrasco.

Canino will play in Tubod alongside board 2 mate Samantha Balquin of City Central School, who edged out Karylle Neri of Kauswagan's International School for the coveted spot.

Joining them in Tubod campaign are elementary boys champions Santiago Lumancas Jr. of Lumbia Elementary School and Marion Erx Daabay of Xavier University Grade School.
