MALACAÑANG on Wednesday, October 2, called on concerned state agencies to provide assistance to the victims of a fire that destroyed a big part of Star City amusement park in Pasay City.
“We call on government instrumentalities to extend any form of assistance to those hit by the blaze,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
Panelo said the Palace was saddened by the fire incident that ripped through the Star City, causing damage not only to the amusement park but also to the facility of Manila Broadcasting Company (MB) which houses DZRH and FM stations Love Radio, Yes the Best and Easy Rock.
“As we near Christmas, this is truly sad news knowing that Star City is a place where Filipino families visit to celebrate the Yuletide season. To our friends in the media who are affected, we wish to let them know that we are one with them in this tragic incident,” Panelo said in a statement.
Star City, a popular amusement park that is home to 38 rides and amusement games, was closed when the blaze erupted at around 12:22 a.m, Wednesday, according to reports.
The fire was believed to have started in the stockroom of stuffed toys and and assortment of prizes.
At 4:30 a.m., the blaze was under control.
The four-hour-long fire reportedly destroyed around 60 percent of the 3.5-hectare amusement park and gutted the nearby MBC building and Aliw Theater.
The Bureau of Fire and Protection on Wednesday said that the fire might have been caused by faulty wiring or arson. (SunStar Philippines)
