Traffic enforcer killed by truck

A TRAFFIC enforcer was killed after he was ran over by a truck along the Jose Abad Santos Avenue in the City of San Fernando Wednesday morning, October 2.

The victim, identified as Mark June Rodriguez, 30, was reportedly deployed at the Lazatin Junction in Barangay Sto. Niño in the City of San Fernando to implement the Anti-Overloading Ordinance on the overpass, said City Traffic Management Division head Danilo Bautista.

"Nagbabantay sila doon sa may Lazatin overpass para doon sa mga overloaded na trucks na dadaan sa overpass. Pinara nila ang truck para hulihin pero hindi tumigil kaya hinabol ni Rodriguez," said Bautista.

The traffic enforcer, onboard his service motorcycle, chased the truck driver for about a kilometer until they reached the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) southbound entry in Barangay Dolores, Bautista added.

"Nung makarating sila sa may tapat ng Paskuhan, nabangga nitong truck na hinahabol niya si Rodriguez. Nakaladkad pa ang motor and unfortunately, our traffic enforcer was declared dead on the spot," he added.

Police Chief Master Sergeant Leonardo Sombillo, case investigator, said the suspect, identified as Johnny Cole, was arrested by policemen of San Simon town when he took an exit from NLEx.

The 10-wheeler winged truck was carrying electronic items. It was flagged down for exceeding the allowed weight limit for the Lazatin Overpass, the police officer added.

Sombillo said the suspect will be charged with murder and will be detained at the police station in the city.
