Outstanding coop anew

THE Manuel Guianga & Sirib Growers & Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Magsige MPC) has once again cemented its position as one of the best cooperatives in the country after it was awarded with Outstanding Primary Cooperative for Large Scale Category during the Gawad Parangal recognition on September 27 at Grand Men Seng Hotel.

The award was given by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Davao Extension Office which seeks to recognize primary cooperatives for their exemplary performance, best practices, and good governance. The cooperative was registered on September 8, 2008, making it 11 years in the industry and the youngest among all eight awardees. Despite its age, it is now considered as one of the fast-growing coops. From 89 members in 2008, it grew to a total of 14,567 members at present with total assets of P326,351,642.95.

Agripino L. Torres, chief executive officer (CEO) of Magsige MPC, in his message, shared how they were able to get the recognition again saying that whenever their organization aims for something, they always deliver. This is because of their "we can do it" mindset coupled with hard work and dedication to bring home the award.

“The award that we get hopefully will serve as an inspiration for each one sa inyo na mga kasamahan sa walong cooperative na nandidito ngayong araw na ito. The only pride that we can have for our cooperative is we have a lot of indigenous people,” Torres said.

Torres strives to live up to its vision to be the most trusted job contracting, financing and marketing services cooperative, leading to a better quality of life among its members.

For over a decade, Magsige MPC has been bringing sustained employment and opportunities and social-economic benefits among its members; providing its clients with highly qualified workforce and professional job contracting services and social and community development projects in the communities.

During their presentation, Magsige MPC showed factors why they remain afloat attributed to their carefully structuralized business model, cooperation with all of its stakeholders, and for being a member-oriented cooperative by prioritizing the improvement of the quality of life of its members and setting the standard of cooperative performance.

Part of their product and services are Job Contracting Services, Savings and Loans, Marketing of Basic Commodities, Garments, and Assurance Center with their main office located in Calinan, Davao City; other satellite offices in Guianga, Tugbok District, Davao City; Toril, Davao City; T'boli, South Cotabato; Tagbina, Surigao del Sur; and Panabo City, Davao del Norte to ensure quality of service delivery.

Magsige MPC took pride in adhering to labor standards, legal requirements, and social legislations. They were able to sustain their growth because of good governance, having skilled and equipped personnel, innovations on the internal system process; goal-oriented and expanded business operation, and expanded partnership towards community progress.

In previous years Magsige was the Gawad Parangal 1st Placer for Most Outstanding Cooperative in Micro Scale Category in 2013; 2nd Placer for Most Outstanding Cooperative for Medium Scale Category in 2014 and 2015 while 1st placer in the same category in 2017 with special citation for Outstanding Community Involvement and Development Program and 3rd Placer for Most Outstanding Cooperative for Large Scale Category in 2018.
